Upper East Side Studio

New York, NY , USA • 2012

Transforming prefab components provide a client's desired functionality while respectfully modernizing a historic UES studio.

The homeowner of this historic Upper East Side studio desired a highly functional space adaptable to many different potential users. This led to a system of transforming components which serve to store away and conceal various pieces of equipment, surfaces and furniture. Tight budget constraints and a narrow installation window suggested the system be built offsite in prefab components and installed with minimal disruption to the homeowner. The resulting proposal is an open, elegant adaptable space which conceals a plethora of uses in a minimal envelope.
